Abstract:

In this paper, a rapid and room temperature electrochemical method is introduced in preparationof Ni doped iron oxide nanoparticles (Ni-IONs) grafted with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). EDTA/Ni-IONs and PVA/Ni-IONs samples were prepared through baseelectro-generation on the cathode surface from aqueous solution of iron(II) chloride, iron(III) nitrateand nickel chloride salts with EDTA/PVA additive. Uniform and narrow particle size Ni-IONs withan average diameter of 15 nm was achieved. Ni doping into the crystal structure of synthesizedIONs and also surface grafting with EDTA/or PVA were established through FT-IR and EDAX analyses. The saturation magnetization values for the resulting EDTA/Ni-IONs and PVA/Ni-IONs were foundto be 38.03 emu/g and 33.45 emu/g, respectively, which proved their superparamagnetic naturein the presence of applied magnetic field. The FE-SEM observations, XRD and VSM data confirmedthe suitable size, crystal structure and magnetic properties of the prepared samples for uses inbiomedical aims.

Superparamagnetic Iron oxide-Gold Core-Shell Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications

Iron oxide nanoparticles are used for contrast enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We have prepared gold-coated iron oxide nanoparticles that show no change in their superparamagnetic behavior as a consequence of coating. Their potential use as MRI contrast agents was investigated by monitoring their T2 relaxation time with concentration. Cytotoxicity of these nanoparticles was als...

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for multiple biomedical applications

Superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPION) were prepared by alkaline co-precipitation of ferric and ferrous chlorides in aqueous solution. The obtained particles were mixed at various ratios with different polymer solutions to obtain either SPION coated with polyvinyl alcohol (Mowiol 383), (PVA-SPION) or SPION coated with PVA modified by functional groups (amino-SPION, carboxy-SPION, and thiol-SPI...

Dextran grafted nickel-doped superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles: Electrochemical synthesis and characterization

In this paper, polymer grafted nickel-doped iron oxide nanoparticles are fabricated via an easy, one-step and fast electrochemical procedure. In the deposition experiments, iron(II) chloride hexahydrate, iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate, nickel chloride hexahydrate, and dextran were used as the bath composition. Dextran grafted nickel-doped iron oxides (DEX/Ni-SPIOs) were synthesized with applying...
